Mahaveer Jayanti – మహవీర జయంతి – 31st March

THE ETERNAL LIGHT

Mahaveer Jayanti: Celebrating the Apostle of Ahimsa
Mahaveer Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveer, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. Born in the 6th century BCE in Kundalagrama, Bihar, Prince Vardhamana renounced his kingdom at the age of 30 in pursuit of spiritual awakening. After twelve years of rigorous penance, he attained ‘Kevala Jnana’ or omniscience.

His teachings revolve around the five great vows: Ahimsa (Non-violence), Satya (Truth), Asteya (Non-stealing), Brahmacharya (Chastity), and Aparigraha (Non-attachment). In an era often marked by conflict, Mahaveer’s philosophy of “Live and Let Live” remains a vital blueprint for global peace and environmental harmony.

Devotees celebrate this day with prayers, chariot processions (Rath Yatra), and by engaging in charitable acts. The essence of the day lies in internalizing the values of compassion toward all living beings, reflecting the true spirit of Jainism.
