మహాత్మా జ్యోతిరావు పూలే: సామాజిక సమరతకు నిలువుటద్దం
English: The Light of Knowledge
MMahatma Jyotirao Phule (1827–1890) was a revolutionary Indian social reformer, thinker, and writer. Born in Maharashtra, he was a pioneer in providing education to women and lower-caste communities. In 1848, he opened the first school for girls in Pune, challenging the rigid patriarchal and caste-based norms of the era.
Phule founded the Satyashodhak Samaj (Society of Seekers of Truth) in 1873. The primary objective was to secure social justice and human rights for the downtrodden. He fiercely campaigned against untouchability and advocated for the widow remarriage movement.
His seminal work, Gulamgiri (Slavery), remains a powerful critique of caste-based exploitation. His legacy as a “Mahatma” (Great Soul) continues to inspire movements for equality and justice across India today.
